How the commission is formed

Composition: Five commissioners are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate for staggered six-year terms. The governor designates one member to serve as Board president.
Appointment: The governor appoints commissioners, subject to confirmation by the New Jersey Senate, for staggered six-year terms.
Leadership: The governor selects one of the five commissioners to serve as Board president; the president is not elected by the other commissioners.
